Outer Sunset Takes Overbid Title in Q4 2016

The Outer Sunset, Parkside and Outer Parkside led the single-family overbidding pack in the last quarter of 2016, with average overbids that far exceeded other neighborhoods.

Though the average citywide overbid was five percent, the Outer Sunset saw buyers paying an average of 19.5% over the list price, with the Parkside (19%) and Outer Parkside (17.5%) hot on its heels. Buyers Don’t Always Need to Overbid

Much has been made of some buyers’ irrational exuberance when it comes to overbidding dramatically for San Francisco properties, as The Chronicle’s Kathleen Pender reported last week. This kind of thing makes a great headline and fuels party conversation.

But overbidding doesn’t always happen, even in the hard-to-crack single-family home market. But no reporters are swarming around looking for those stories.
